We are all guilty of packing two weeks worth of outfits for a two day trip. Smart packing can be a challenging and overwhelming task, especially for the fashion obsessed. We're all about cutting out the clutter whether its your home closet or your vacay bag, so naturally we feel it necessary to share a few of our packing pointers.
Do your Homework
Call or research your destination and find out if they will be providing beach towels, hair dryers, irons, or anything else that might be too bulky to pack. Check the weather forecast and pack accordingly. You're probably lying if you can say you haven't brought your cute new American Apparel mini to the slopes or your favorite Steve Madden over-the-knee boots to Miami with you - "just in case". We know it's tempting, but leave climate-inappropriate items at home.
Check it Off
It sounds silly, but writing out a list of everything you'll need for your trip will help you avoid the inevitable, "Oh no I forgot my toothbrush!". Break your list down by toiletries, clothing, and accessories.
Editing
Indulge yourself and spread all of your favorite options out on a bed or table. Now comes the hard part -editing. Start weeding out any articles of clothing that don't make sense on the trip or will take up too much space in your bag. Cast away pieces that only go with one other item in your suitcase. Variety is key when packing!
Think Outside the Bag
It is crucial to pack outside of your bag. This will give you a chance to see the full scope of what you are planning on bringing. It will also allow you to avoid thinking you threw something in that you haven't, thus leaving it behind.
Mix it Up!
Make sure you are packing items that can be mixed and matched with one another. If you have a great, versatile piece of clothing that can provide as a component to any outfit, bring it! Try and keep the general color scheme of your suitcase contents to blacks and nuetrals, adding in pops of colors with a select few pieces or accessories. In doing so, more items in your suitcase can be worn together, limting the amount of clothing you'll need to bring.
Travel - Heavy?
Wear your chunkiest shoes and heaviest coat or sweater on travel day. This will save space in your suitcase for a higher quantity of clothing.
Relax.
Enjoy a lighter load. You'll be spending less time digging through your bag and more time soaking up sun, slopes, or city streets.
This style is edgy and bold with a hint of street.
So it's Valentine's Day and your romantic date is hours away and approaching with haste. Let us guess- the contents of your closet are strewn all over your floor as you are frantically searching through a pile of potential outfits with towel-wrapped hair and a half made-up face. We know that finding the perfect date outfit can be mission impossible - especially on Valentine's Day. Here, we'll ease your V-Day headache with tips on what to wear to suit your mood and flatter your body type, because everyone knows that when you are feeling your best, you are looking your best!
If you are looking to...
Rock Red:
Not everyone is comfortable sporting this bold and daring color, but we think it's festive and sexy to get in the spirit of Valentine's Day by dressing the part. The key is matching the shade to your skin tone. If you have a lighter skin tone, a bright, bold lipstick red is suitable for you. If your skin is of a darker hue, you may want to try a deeper burgandy or a red with hints of orange. Olive skin tones are known to look pekid and often have a sea-sick appearance when paired with a red palette. If this describes you, you can always wear a black or nuetral base color and pepper in some red with a hair accessory, costume jewelry, or pair of flashy pumps. Don't be afraid to rock a bright lip or fire engine red manicure!
Sport Your Stems:
If there is any day of the year to come out of your shell and show some leg, it's Valentine's Day! Dust off that mini dress or skirt in the back of your closet and give it a whirl. Just remember, if you are opting to go racey on the bottom, balance it out with a conservative top (and vice versa). Try a billowy top or structured blazer. This will help you achieve a sexy look without crossing the line.
Minimize To The Max:
Trouble areas and insecurities are two univited guests on your Valentine's date. If you wish to minimize the appearance of your waist, select an empire or drop waist silhouette and avoid chunky, thick belts. If your mission is to draw attention away from your thighs or hips, select an outfit with a plunging V-neck, halter top, or an embellished neckline. This will attract the eye to the upper area of your body. To elongate the appearance of your legs, try vertical lines or seams and utilize black- it really is slimming.

We are all guilty of sitting in front of the mirror trying to figure out how to pull an outfit together. Should I wear a necklace, possibly a hat, maybe a scarf? We recently sat down with Lucy Armstrong, a stylist at Gilt Groupe, and asked her to give us few tips that will help you transform your look.
What are three quick tips for accessorizing an outfit?
“I think a handbag can make a huge difference to an outfit. If you can do it, nix the big handbag and go for something small and stylish. Sometimes carrying a huge bag full of stuff can kill a look. If you are going from day to night, pull your hair back into a topknot and throw on some earrings! And don’t forget the Nail color!! You only have to do it once a week and will keep you fresh for every event!”
What is the number one rule when attending a daytime event?
When you're attending a daytime event, you just want to be and look comfortable. Depending on your body type, a rule that I've always had for myself is never show too much skin...if I'm showing off my legs with a skirt or little shorts then I will always pair with a sleeved silk top or light sweater. And dress it up with jewelry and a colored lip! Also, every girl should have a pair of "comfortable" heels in their closet...and I don’t mean a pair of Aerosoles. But a bootie with a small heel, like a pair of Isabel Marant boots, or a wedge from Chloe, or a strappy something by Alexander Wang.
Where is your favorites place to shop for accessories?
The majority of my accessories come from my Mother, Grandmother, and my Great Aunts. My favorite pieces of jewelry are a gold serpent ring with ruby eyes, gold sapphire bracelet, and a small diamond and ruby gold necklace, I wear this ensemble everyday. I absolutely love wearing family jewelry and I will buy any vintage jewelry that goes along with it. I have bought a lot of my vintage jewelry in antique stores in Missouri and Alabama. I just recently bought a turquoise thunderbird ring that I love! In NYC my accessory shopping takes place at the Chelsea Antique Market, on 26th and 6th Avenue. I also love to shop at Village Vintage store on 7th and Ave. A, as well as Western Spirit on Broadway.
